Meeting of the Association of Asian Ombudsman in Baku opportunity to fight corruption

Baku, Oct 31, IRNA - The 21st meeting of the Board of Directors of the Association of Ombudsman of Asia, attended by eight countries in the region, including Iran, is underway in Baku aimed at sharing experience in the field of anti-corruption at the governmental level and handling public complaints.

Nasser Seraj, the head of the General Inspection Organization of Iran (GIO) and the officials from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, are attending the meeting.

Representatives from eight member countries of the board of directors of the Association of Ombudsman discussed on the report on the activities of national Ombudsmans in dealing with public complaints and in this two-day meeting and exchanged views on how to collaborate and exchange international experience in combating corruption.

The word “Ombudsman” has a Swedish (Scandinavian) root and has been used for about 100 years in Europe, America, Asia and Africa to express the concept of “fight against corruption'.

The classic and main meaning of this term is the references and institutions that deal with the complaints of people from administrative agencies. The characteristics of this type of non-judicial and administrative proceedings are lack of formalities and an increase in the speed at which complaints are obtained.
