Iran VP thanks Iraqi president for well hosting of Arbaeen pilgrims

Baghdad, Oct 30, IRNA – Iran's First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, in a phone call with Iraqi President Barham Salih on Tuesday, thanked the country's officials and people for a good accommodation of pilgrims, especially Iranian pilgrims of Arbaeen.

Jahangiri, who made the phone call while he was in the Iraqi city of Najaf, also congratulated Salih on his election victory, wishing success for him, the Iraqi government and people.

He hoped for ever growing Iran-Iraq relations, while inviting Salih to visit Iran, which was welcomed by his host.

The Iraqi president also welcomed Jahangiri's presence at this year's Arbaeen ceremony.

Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. It marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS), the third Imam of the Shia Muslims.

Each year, millions of Iranian Shia Muslims and Muslims from other countries travel to the holy cities of Iraq to make Arbaeen pilgrimage. This year Arbaeen falls on October 30.
