IRGC Comdr: Arbaeen pilgrims have no problems

Abadan, Oct 27, IRNA – Thanks to the security measures taken, there is no problem in Arbaeen pilgrims commute, IRGC Commander Major-General Mohammad-Ali Jafari said.

Jafari made the remarks Saturday while visiting Shalamcheh border in Khuzestan Province.

Despite all difficulties, economic problems, sanctions and bad weather conditions, more pilgrims are heading to Karbala, he said.

He praised all efforts made by police, IRGC, Basij (volunteer forces) and provincial officials for holding Arbaeen rituals.

Jafari pointed to empathy and unity with people in the world as the message of Arbaeen rituals.

The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. It marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS), the third Imam of the Shia Muslims.

Every year millions of Iranian Shia Muslims and pilgrims from other countries travel to the holy cities of Iraq to perform Arbaeen pilgrimage. This year Arbaeen falls on October 30.
