US anti-Iran policies failed: FM aide

Moscow, Oct 23, IRNA - Special assistant to Iran's Foreign Minister and senior negotiator on Syrian affairs said that the unreasonable stance by some countries, including the US, on Iran's role in Syria will not be pursued by other influential actors because it is failed policy.

Hossein Jaberi Ansari made the remarks at the end of the tripartite meeting of top experts from Iran and Turkey with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in response to the hype by some opposition media on the absence of Iran at the Syrian summit in Turkey.

'No country has the possibility of abandoning other countries, and Iran's role in Syria, Astana Process and peace and prosperity in this country is based on reality, and is considered by Turkey and other actors,' he added.

Iran's senior negotiator on Syrian affairs said, “Iran has been beside the Syrian government with all seriousness and authority over the past years and has been working for materialization of the peace process within the framework of Astana talks and other international communications for about two years and will continue its measures.

Jaberi Ansari added, “There are many meetings around the world, and this is normal, so holding a meeting in any part of the world will not change the political and geopolitical realities.”

He went on to say that today and yesterday he met with representatives of Russia and Turkey in Moscow, adding, “Yesterday and today, we had bilateral talks with Russian officials, including Mikhail Bogdanov and Sergei Vorshinin, Russian deputy foreign minister, while the tripartite meeting at the level of high-ranking representatives of the three countries of Astana Process has been held, and today we have met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the course of these meetings.”
