Tribal clashes kill cop SE Iran

Zahedan, Oct 23, IRNA - A law enforcement agent who was earlier this morning shot and wounded while transferring some defendants to court in southeastern Iran succumbed to his injuries, a provincial official said.

In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), governor of Hirmand in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan Province Mohammad-Ali Piri said some gunmen shot the law enforcement agents in front of the court and ran away.

One police officer was injured in the hip and another in the leg.

Upon being taken to the hospital, one of them died of injuries he sustained during the shooting

Two gunmen have been arrested, but seven others are on the loose, Piri noted, adding efforts to detain the remaining gunmen are underway.

He went on to say the shooting was due to conflicts between two tribes, namely Mir and Mirbaluchzehi.
