3 terrorist cells busted in SW Iran: Intelligence minister

Abadan, Oct 23, IRNA – Three terrorist cells have been dismantled in southwestern Iran, said Iran's Intelligence Minister Mahmood Alavi on Tuesday.

Visiting Shalamcheh border crossing in the western Iran, Alavi told reporters that 15 members of the terrorist cells have been arrested, adding that the terrorist acknowledged they were planning attacks against pilgrims of Arbaeen (religious ritual of Shia Muslims).

Shalamche border crossing is 15 km away from Iranian city of Khorramshahr, neighboring Iraq.

Every year millions of Muslims from around the world, including Iran, pay a visit to the holy city of Karbala to commemorate the 40th day of the third Shia Muslim Imam Hossein martyrdom anniversary. A major part of the pilgrims are Iranian.

'The US along with the Zionist regime and Saudi family are trying to make troubles for the Islamic Iran, and to this end, they are investing in separatist and Takfiri movements enticing them for terrorist acts,' the minister said.

Out of every 100 in Iran, 99 terrorist plots have been identified and busted, which is an unprecedented figure in the world and the intelligence agencies, he said.
