Over 11 tons of narcotics seized in southern Iran

Bushehr, Oct 23, IRNA – Head of Bushehr provincial Anti-Drug Coordinating Department said on Tuesday that 11.77 tons of illicit drugs have been seized in the province during the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (beginning on March 21).

“The figure has increased by 10.8 tons, showing a 9% rise compared to the same period last year,” said Arastou Torkaman-Manesh in an interview with Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

“More than 9 tons of the drugs were seized in naval routes, which implies that the land paths are not safe for them,” he said while referring to the shift in trafficking routes from land to water.

He added that the seized consignments were not to be distributed in Bushehr Province, but to be transitted and used in neighboring countries.
