Addressing the ceremony to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation between the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad’s Animal Production Department and the Department for Employment and Self Sufficiency of Imam Khomeini Relief Committee, Adil Sarvy said, “90% of the world's silk is produced in Asian countries, with China standing first in the list for producing 142,000 tonnes India ranking second for producing 32,000 tons of the product.'
Sarvy continued, “With the production of silkworm, raw material needed for carpet weaving, medical, military and electronic industries is produced, and part of rural women and children earn a relative income.'
According to him, sericulture is prevalent in 22 provinces of the country, but 96% of the silkworm breeding is concentrated in seven provinces of the country, with Gilan Province with 40% and Khorasan Razavi with 30%, ranking first and second respectively.
