Mandela's commemoration ceremony held with IRNA pictures
Algiers, Oct 19, IRNA -- The Ministry of Education of South Africa held a ceremony on Thursday dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nelson Mandela in collaboration with the Embassy and Cultural Advisor of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Algerian and Russian embassies in Pretoria, where photographs of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) were showcased.

At the ceremony, the parts of the cooperation of these countries with the people of South Africa and the support of their struggles for the fall of the apartheid system and photos of Mandela's visit to these countries were presented.

The Islamic Republic of Iran's ambassador to South Africa, Mohammad Boroujerdi, said in a speech at the ceremony that the Islamic Republic of Iran, has since the outset opposed to any domination and tried to communicate with the independent and right seeking countries, opposed any oppression and racism and, in the framework of supporting the liberation movements, its relations with the regime the apartheid regime has been interrupted and at the same time communicating with the fighting and liberation groups.

He added that after the collapse of the apartheid regime in the 1990s, and the trip by Mandela to the congress of Mandela to Tehran, the Islamic Republic of Iran began to establish relations with South Africa and, after the fall of the apartheid regime in South Africa, so far, relations between the two countries have continued in a friendly way.
