Border guards abduction, conspiracy against Iran-Pak ties: Religious leader

Islamabad, Oct 18, IRNA - President of Pakistan National Solidarity Council strongly condemned abduction of Iranian border guards by terrorists, and said that enemies through such cowardly acts are trying to weaken strong Iran-Pakistan ties.

In an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Dr Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair said that there is no doubt the intelligence agencies of our enemies are active in Pakistan with a purpose to destabilize the country.

Fourteen Basij (volunteer forces) and border guards were abducted by terrorists in Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan border with Pakistan.

Jaish al-Adl, terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the act. In this regard, there has been contact between the Directors General (Military Operations) of Iran and Pakistan.

Expressing his views, Dr. Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair said terrorists 'are trying to damage the stability of Pakistan'.

He noted that such incident also shows that Iran-Pakistan border needs more security measures. The religious leader said that Iran and Pakistan should further enhance their cooperation on border areas to avoid such attacks.

The scholar said that it is good that Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi had assured Pakistan's full cooperation to his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif to help investigate the matter and punish the terrorists.

Former Member of Parliament said that Pakistan should take this matter seriously and cooperate with Iran in its own interest. 'Such incident cannot be forgotten; we must thoroughly investigate the matter,” he said.

'Dr Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair said that such attacks cannot undermine Iran-Pakistan ties. “Whole nation of Pakistan condemn this crime,” he said.

Earlier Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi had said that such incidents are the handy work of 'our common enemies' unhappy with the existing close, friendly relations between Pakistan and Iran.
