MP: Enjoying equal rights for children requires supporting them

Tehran, Oct 17, IRNA -The representative of people of Tehran, in the Iranian parliament said that the child as a human being should have equal rights to others, and said that “equal rights for children require supporting them in all areas”.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, with the aim of guaranteeing the rights of all children in 1994, signed the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the Additional Protocol to the Treaty on the Buying and Selling Child, and child pornography was also submitted to the Parliament in 2004, Parvaneh Mafi said on Children's Rights in the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of the Child at the International Inter-Parliamentary Alliance in Geneva.

Mafi noted, “Respect for human dignity requires that the child be considered as a person with equal rights to others, enjoying equal rights for the child, requires all-out support of them.

She stressed that this, on the one hand, stems from the idea of human justice for the achievement of personal and social prosperity and, on the other hand, the physical and mental weakness of the child and his inability to exercise his rights and, consequently, his need for special care and support.

The Iranian MP noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken various measures in pursuit of the full rights of people under the age of 18, which accounts for more than 22 million people, about 30 percent of the total.”
