Iran, Uruguay to develop parliamentary ties

Tehran, Oct 17, IRNA – Iran-Uruguay parliamentary friendship group in a meeting with President of Uruguay House of Representatives Jorge Gandini discussed bilateral ties and parliamentary cooperation between two countries.

During the meeting chairman of Iran-Uruguay parliamentary friendship group, Abdolreza Azizi referred to 112 years relations between two countries.

He also underlined the importance of taking advantage of parliamentary capacities for promoting bilateral relations in the economic field.

Pointing to the important progress in producing knowledge, nano-technology, biotechnology and stem cells, he reminded the fact that after signing Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), many countries namely European ones made use of the opportunity and started developing trade ties with Iran.

Meanwhile, Gandini said historic relations between Iran and Uruguay have always been based on friendship and mutual respect.

He also described as important the role both countries' parliaments play in developing trade relations.

In another meeting with chairman of Iran-Uruguay parliamentary friendship group, Azizi said thanks to Uruguay supports of Iran in war time and in sanctions era, the country has considerable position in Iranians' public opinion.

The Uruguay chairman also underlined MPs' readiness for developing cooperation.

Both sides also discussed holding joint commission in near future.
