Afghan parliament candidate killed in explosion

Kabul, Oct 17, IRNA – A parliament candidate was killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, local media said.

The Helmand Province governor's spokesman Omar Zwak told local media that the explosion hit the campaign headquarters of Abdul-Jabar Qahraman in Lashkargah.

Qahraman was a military veteran that was a candidate for the 17th parliamentary election of Afghanistan.

The bomb was planted under the chair that the candidate was sitting on, the spokesman said.

At least two people were killed in the explosion, according to the preliminary toll.

No group has claimed the responsibility.

Earlier this month another candidate, Saleh Mohammad Khan Achakzai, was killed in a suicide attack at his campaign headquarters in Lashkargah.

So far 10 candidates have been killed in various provinces of Afghanistan.

After a three-year delay, the 17th Afghan parliamentary election is scheduled for October 20
