Multi-billion euro narcotics seized in SE Iran

Kerman, Oct 15, IRNA – Two multi-million euro worth of illegal drugs consignment were confiscated in southwestern Iran, a local official said.

Security forces seized 612 kg morphine and 212 kg opium from smugglers in two operations, said Mohammad Ziaeddini, Prosecutor-General of Bam, Kerman Province.

The confiscated narcotic drugs were worth more than 19 billion tomans (some four million euro), he said, adding that after some intelligence investigation, it was found out that members of an international smuggling gang were trying to transfer the big consignment across the Province.

The security forces managed to intercept the smugglers on two different points in the province, the official added.

'In addition to the illegal drugs, some logistical equipment was seized,' he said.

Bam is 195 km to the east of city of Kerman, the provincial capital.
