Iranian docu nominated for Wildscreen film festival award

Tehran, Oct 13, IRNA – The Iranian documentary ‘In the Realm of the Spider-tailed Viper’ has been nominated for the Wildscreen Festival award.

The film’s first role Mahmoud Mansouri is nominated for the Emerging Talent award in its debut and competes against two other documentaries to win the award.

Nominees were selected from 792 films in 17 categories.

The film narrates the story of the discovery of the viper in western Iran by Mansouri who is a native farmer and has provided the producer team with information about the viper and its nests. The Iranian farmer has also been invited to the festival.

Founded in 1987, Wildscreen Film Festival is the most prestigious festival on environmental films and documentaries and grants the Wildscreen Panda award, which is also dubbed as the Green Oscar.

The 36th edition of the festival is held from October 15-19 in Bristol, southwestern England.

The spider-tailed horned viper was discovered in 2006 and is the most evolved and also one of the rarest species of vipers around the world.

It is endemic to Ilam Province, western Iran.
