Slovenia strongly supports the Iran Deal

New York, Oct 3, IRNA – Ljubljana is determined to develop economic cooperation and trade exchange with Tehran, Slovenian foreign minister said Wednesday, stressing that his country strongly supports Iran nuclera deal.

Slovenia wants the deal to continue, Miro Cerar told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) in an interview held in New York, US.

To keep the Iran Deal alive, Slovenia will move in line with the stance taken by the European Union on the issue, Cerar said.

US President Donald Trump withdrew unilaterally from the Iran Deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), on May 8. His move drew world leaders’ including the Europeans’ criticism.

At the recently-held 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, the participants stressed the need to counter unilateralism across the world.

About bilateral relations between Slovenian and Iran, Cerar said that the two have cordial ties that can be developed after reopening of their embassies.

About a year ago, Slovenian president reopened his country’s embassy in Tehran at a ceremony in which Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif took part.

As Cerar said, Slovenian companies active in the area of modern technologies are now present in Iran.

He added that his country is willing to prepare the ground for further bilateral economic cooperation.

On the sidelines of the 73rd session of the Unites Nations (UN) General Assembly from September 25 to October 1, many world leaders and top officials held talks with each other on various international and bilateral questions.

Also, Iranian foreign minister met with his Slovenian counterpart.
