US Congress move 'unwise, irrelevant': Iran

Tehran, Oct 1, IRNA – The US Congress' issuing a resolution against Iran about the Polisario Front was 'unwise, irrelevant and wrong' and shows that they don’t have the required information about the region and Iran, said the spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in his weekly press conference on Monday.

'The resolution is the fruit of certain lobbies in Washington supporting Morocco, which have already put forth some allegations and got their response,' said Barhram Qasemi.

'The King of Morocco, instead of taking a constructive action, decided to unilaterally sever diplomatic ties between the two countries.'

He added that there are certain countries with their hands stretched out to get something from others; such a conduct is of importance because such a resolution is passed by the US Congress against Iran.

Polisario Front is a Sahrawi national liberation movement aiming to end Moroccan presence in the Western Sahara. The United Nations considers the Polisario Front to be the legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people and maintains that the Sahrawis have a right to self-determination. The Polisario Front is outlawed in the parts of Western Sahara under Moroccan control.

Regarding the oil trade with Europe, Qasemi said, 'It is a significant issue for Iran and Europe; we've had good talks and taken good steps.'

He said that the decisions have mostly been finalized.
