Creating research institute to boost Iran, China scientific ties

Tehran, Oct 1, IRNA – The caretaker of Iran's Islamic Azad University (IAU) highlighted the importance of establishing a research institute to study relations between Iran and China in line with the will of the both nations to embark on new joint scientific ventures.

Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi made the remarks in a meeting with Wang Jisi President of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies at Peking University and his accompanying delegation in the Iranian capital on Sunday evening.

Tehranchi expressed hope that through establishment of such a research institute, both countries would be able to better contribute to science advancement.

He referred to the economic, technological, and scientific relations between Iran and China in recent years, saying, inter-university relations could not be enhanced unless an intelligent institute consisting of scholars and experts from both countries manage such relations.

Tehranchi said engineer exchange programs as a consequence of establishing such an institute.

The IAU supervisor referred to Iran’s scientific progress after 1979 Islamic Revolution, adding, Iran’s scientific ranking has improved from 53 in 1996 to 16 in 2016, indicating a whopping improvement.

He added that countries with high scientific potentials can consider Shanghai Cooperation Organization in security fields or BRICS agreement as a role model to develop a cooperation treaty in scientific fields.
