1,778 kg of narcotics seized in southeast Iran

Zahedan, Sept 29, IRNA – The Iranian police discovered and confiscated 1,778 kilograms of narcotic drugs in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, southeastern Iran, said the provincial police commander on Saturday.

'Following the information received about a large depot of narcotics, the police launched an operation,' said Brigadier-General Mohammad Qanbari.

General Qanbari said that 1,592 kg of opium, 171 kg of heroin and 13 kg of hashish were found in the operation.

He noted that four drug traffickers were killed and four others were arrested and their arms and explosives were seized.

Sistan and Baluchestan is located in the southeast of the country, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The province is the second largest province in Iran with an area of 180,726 square km and a population of 2.5 million.

Iran as the country neighboring Afghanistan and Pakistan is a transit route for drug-traffickers. Many Iranian soldiers are killed every year in the fight against the ominous phenomenon.
