Statue of Armenian martyr unveiled in Iranian capital

Tehran, Setp 29, IRNA – The statue of an Armenian Iranian martyr of Iran-Iraq war was unveiled in a square in Tehran which is also named after him.

Armenian religious authorities, family members of the martyr, and officials attended the unveiling ceremony of martyr Gagik Toomanian’s statue.

The square in which the statue is installed was named after him in 2015.

He was martyred in the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988) on August 15, 1987 in Marivan, Kordestan Province, western Irna.

Iranian Armenians like their Muslim compatriots made great sacrifice during the Iran-Iraq war and hundreds of them participated in the battles, 44 of whom were martyred either during the military operations or after them due to wounds inflicted in the war.
