Iran to open university branches in Iraq

Tehran, Sept 29, IRNA - Deputy Minister of Science in International Affairs underlined drawing roadmap for bilateral cooperation, establishing Iranian universities in Iraq and launching joint science and technology parks.

In his meeting with members of Iraq embassy in Tehran, Hossein Salar Amoli underlined developing scientific and academic relations between Iran and Iraq.

Referring to capacities and commonalities in cultural, religious fields and also good neighborliness, both sides called for developing cooperation in the academic field and in exchanging scientific delegations and senior officials.

Meanwhile, Iraqi cultural attaché Yasser Abdul Zahra Al-Hajjaj emphasized Iraqi officials' interests to take advantage of Iran scientific potential and also increasing number of Iraqi students in Iranian universities.

Al-Hajjaj called for Iranian universities' scientific support of Iraq scientific and academic communities.

Extending the scientific MoU between Iran and Iraq, drawing road map for academic and research cooperation and planning for the meeting between chancellors of top universities were among other topics discussed by both sides.

Salar Amoli in his meeting with President of International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) Kakha Shengelia underlined supporting IAUP activities.

He also elaborated on Iran scientific and international position.

Shengelia, for his part, pointed to the importance of maintaining scientific and academic cooperation with Iranian centers.

Referring to Iran's position in the region and the world, he expressed hope for developing cooperation and holding scientific meetings between chancellors of Iranian and Iraqi universities.
