Iran’s Defense Week anniversary observed in Pakistan

Islamabad, Sept 28, IRNA - A ceremony to observe the anniversary of Iran’s Sacred Defense Week was recently held in Pakistan’s Islamabad with the participation of a large number of prominent personalities.

Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost, addressing the event, said the heroic defense of Iranian people against the imposed war on Iran by the Saddam’s Ba’ath regime is called the 'Sacred Defense' by Iranians who mark the occasion annually in a week named the Sacred Defense Week.

The enemies of Iran and the Islamic Revolution had planned to destroy Iran by waging a full-fledged war but their conspiracy was ultimately foiled by the courageous resistance of the Iranian Armed Forces and the entire nation, he added.

The Iranian ambassador, referring to recent terrorist attack in Ahvaz said 25 people, including women and children, lost their lives during September 22 terrorist attack which took place during a military parade held to mark the 38th anniversary of an eight-year imposed war against Iran.

Terrorism has been converted from a regional phenomenon to a global one, Honardoost said, stressing that all countries of the world should unite to fight the menace of terrorism.

He said that Iran and Pakistan have lots of common concerns and common interests.

“Future our relations will be more clear and shiny and full of hopes for the two great nations of Pakistan and Iran,” the ambassador said.

Lieutenant General Shahid Baig Mirza of Pakistan Army was the chief guest on the occasion, organized by the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran at a local hotel.

Pakistan Minister of State for Interior, Shehryar Khan Afridi, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan for overseas Pakistanis and human resource development Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari and Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Noorul Haq Qadri were also present on the event.
