China urges all sides' commitment to JCPOA

Beijing, Sept 26, IRNA - The Chinese foreign minister on Wednesday urged all parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to be committed to their obligations.

In his statement before the UN Security Council, Wang Yi defended the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, praising it as an 'achievement of multilateralism'.

'There is no international agreement that is perfect. The JCPOA has been unanimously endorsed by the Security Council. What happened in the past three years shows the JCPOA is a viable agreement,' he said, referring to the deal, officially known as the JCPOA.

'Legitimate rights' of other countries to trade with Iran 'should be respected', Wang noted, dispatches reported.

US president mounted pressure on Iran and on May 8 announced that Washington would withdraw from Iran's nuclear deal and re-impose nuclear-related sanctions on the country.

This is while most world powers, including Russia, China, and the European Union, have repeatedly stressed that keeping the deal is in the interest of the world peace and security.
