Ahvaz terrorist attack uncovers sponsors: Iran

Tehran, Sept 26, IRNA – The terrorist attack in Ahvaz uncovered the support of the terror sponsors that even did not verbally condemn the crime, secretary of Iran's Security Council said Wednesday.

Addressing the meeting of regional national security secretaries and advisors in Tehran Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council stressed the importance of constructive dialogue in establishing security, peace and progress in the region.

He also noted that the recent terrorist attack in Ahvaz carried out by a cell affiliated to foreign countries attests to the organized attempts of the terrorists and their sponsors for making the region insecure.

The terrorist attack targeted Saturday a military parade and the civilian bystanders in the southwestern city of Ahvaz. At least 24 people, including children, were killed and some 60 people were injured by the terrorists.

A group, calling itself al-Ahwazieh, claimed the responsibility. Despite condmnations by scores of countries and officials, some states have had no reaction to the attack.

Denouncing the attack, Shamkhani highlighted 'the double standard of some states that claim they are fighting terrorism but refrained from condemning the crime.'

'Exploiting terrorism by giving financial, political, logistic, and contributing to creation and dissemination of Takfiri beliefs to interfere in countries' internal affairs and occupy them under the pretext of fighting terrorism are clear examples of taking double standards,' the Iranian official said.

Shamkhani described terrorism as a serious, growing threat adding that thousands of terrorists are still in Syria and other countries.

They will endanger the future and stability of the region if the threat is not seriously confronted, he said.

He also referred to some intelligence evidences that points to the lack of political will on the part of the US for routing out the terrorist group of Daesh (ISIS) and said that the American planes, despite the accurate information on the footholds of terrorists, not only refrained from attacking them, but also in some cases they have airdropped aid or even rescued the terrorist leaders being attacked by the Syrian and Iraqi forces.

At the meeting that is the first of the kind and being hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretariat, the ways to fight terrorism, extremism and new threats posed by them in West Asia will be discussed.

Bilateral talks will also be held on the sidelines of the meeting.

India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Afghanistan's National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib and Russian Federation Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev as well as a Chinese national security official are attending the meeting.
