Over 500 tons of shrimps exported from Chabahar

Chabahar, Sept 15, IRNA – Head of Chabahar veterinary network said that 501 out of total 1600 tons of shrimps farmed in Chabahar county was exported to Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Hong Kong.

Olia Mirlashari in an interview with Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said, 'Most of the shrimp farmed in Chabahar county and Gwadar Bay are disease resistant Whiteleg shrimps.'

'There are total 45 farms in Gwadar Bay, each of which covers an area of 20 hectares,' he added.

Deputy of Sistan and Balouchestan provincial fishieries administration for aquaculture affairs Mizan Sedaghati referred to the economic aspects of producing shrimp, saying, 'Each hectare of shrimp farms creates 2 jobs on average.'

'Each kilogram of high quality shrimps is sold for $5, thus expansion of these farms is beneficial for region and the country,' he added.

Chabahar county and Gwadar Bay are located in the southeasternmost region of Iran, near the countries’ border with Pakistan.

Due to proximity to the Equator, the region is warm and humid during eight months of the year, creating suitable condition for farming shrimps.
