Salafi Islam has no place in Malaysia: Minister

Kuala Lumpur, Sept 25, IRNA - The interpretation of Islam promulgated by controversial Indian Islamic preacher, Zakir Naik who is living in Malaysia, has no place in the country, Malaysia's religious affairs minister said.

Mujahid Yusof Rawa, addressing Tuesday a seminar called 'Islam and the Challenges in Multicultural Societies', lashed out at Zakir Naik for insulting other religions.

Rawa referred to some of the remarks made by Naik, saying one should not ridicule other religions and that promoting any religion should be done rationally and in a balanced way.

Malaysia's religious affairs minister acknowledged the reason for the success of Islamic propaganda is that it does not attack other religions.

He argued Islam is the religion of kindness and insulting others has no place in it.

Naik left India in 2016 following charges of promoting Salafi ideology and Wahhabism.

He is accused of making provocative speeches which led to a terrorist attack in Dhaka in 2016. The strike claimed the lives of 22 people.

The Indian National Investigation Agency is also investigating his money laundering case at the Islamic Research Foundation.
