Former Iraqi speaker condemns terrorist attack in Ahvaz

Baghdad, Sept 24, IRNA – Former Iraqi parliament speaker Salim al-Jabouri condemned terrorist attack in the southwestern city of Ahvaz.

In a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi, he underlined the need for seriously dealing with extremist currents to prevent recurrence of the incidents.

Masjedi, for his part, appreciated al-Jabouri’s outstanding management during his tenure as speaker of parliament.

He also commended his serious efforts to develop bilateral ties, especially parliamentary relations.

Highlighting Iran’s insistence on the significance of Iraq’s unity and integrity, he hoped that election of president and prime minister will be held according to timeframe with consensus among the Kurdish and Shia currents.

He also reiterated Iran’s readiness for promoting mutual cooperation.

During separate meetings with President Fouad Masoum and new parliament speaker Mohammad al-Halbousi, Masjedi discussed Iraq's situation and regional developments on Sunday.
