Monday declared day of mourning in Khuzestan province

Ahvaz, Sept 22, IRNA – Following terror attack in southwestern city of Ahvaz which killed 25 civilians, Khuzestan Friday Prayer Leader Ayatollah Mousavi-Jazayeri and Governor General Gholam Reza Shariati in a joint statement on Saturday declared Monday as day of mourning.

The statement read that the terrorist attack which killed fellow countrymen today reveal the evil nature of the inwardly blind enemies of the Iranian nation and Islamic system.

Sworn enemies and mercenaries think that the acts of terror will be able to create discord among people, it said, noting that they should know that their blind acts will get nowhere, as the people and security officials are vigilant.

At least 25 people were killed and more than 60 others injured during Saturday morning terror attack in Ahvaz, capital of Khuzestan Province, in southwestern Iran.

“The terrorists disguised as the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and Basiji (volunteer) forces opened fire at the authorities and people from behind the stand during the parade,' Governor of Khuzestan Gholam-Reza Shariati said earlier.

The self-proclaimed Saudi-affiliated Al-Ahwaz terrorist group claimed the responsibility for the attack.
