Europe undermines America's efforts against Iran: Website

Tehran, Sept 18, IRNA - The Washington Free Beacon website wrote that the US is frightening international banks and corporations and has threatened them to stop cooperating with Iran.

However, the website noted that the Europeans continue to strive to maintain trade relations with Iran and on Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The American diplomats held a series of meetings with major international corporations and bank officials to outline US President Donald Trump's government sanctions program against Iran.

Several sources aware of the content of the meetings told the American website, the Trump government has announced that any company on the Iranian side will be subject to the most severe sanctions against them. Meanwhile, European countries are going to continue to cooperate with Iran.

According to Washington Free Beacon, the meetings were held while former US President Barack Obama's government and allies held a series of meetings to help European countries and major companies to lift US sanctions.

The American ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenfell, is among the diplomats who have held meetings with European companies and banks and threatened them to stop cooperating with Iran.

But these diplomatic efforts have been undermined by the actions of leaders of Germany and other European countries.

The Europeans are hoping to set up a plan to put an end to US sanctions against Iran.

Top officials from Germany and other European countries continue to design techniques to overcome sanctions and call for the creation of an alternative to Swift. Swift is an international monetary system through which cross-border financial transactions are carried out.

The European Union's allies and former European officials have been holding talks with European diplomats to undermine US policy towards Iran, while day for imposing new sanctions on November 4 is closing, Free Beacon reported.

The American website wrote, 'Tensions have been created since October last year, when a group of European ambassadors with Senate Democrats and senior US government officials held a closed-door meeting. The content of the meeting was aimed at undermining Trump policy towards Iran and maintaining the nuclear deal.
