Defense Minister: Russia not to engage in Idlib

Moscow, Sept 18, IRNA - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that his country will not conduct military operations in Syria.

Shoigu said that he has signed an agreement with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar to improve the situation in Idlib.

The situation in Idlib was discussed during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi on Monday.

At the end of his meeting with his Turkish counterpart, the Russian president said that the agreement deals with establishing a civilian area in Syria's Idlib.

'We decided to set up a civilian area at depths of 15-20 km in October 15 October along the buffer lines between the Syrian armed opposition and the Syrian army,' he added.

The Russian president said that the area would be controlled by the Turkish army patrols and the Russian military police.
