Iran elected vice-chairman of IAEA annual conference

London, Sept 17, IRNA – Iran's Ambassador and permanent representative in international organizations in Vienna Kazem Gharibabadi was elected as vice-chairman of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) annual conference meeting on Monday.

On the first day of the 62nd annual conference meeting of the IAEA, Ambassador Gharibabadi was elected as vice-chairman from the Middle East and South Asia Group.

In the meeting more than 2000 participants from 169 countries are to consider and discuss general issues, approval of the budget and future plans upon proposal of the board of governors.

Director General of the IAEA Yukiya Amano in his remarks confirmed again that Tehran had been committed to its obligations in JCPOA since the last session of the UN General Assembly.

Vice-President and Head of Iran Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi, who is in Vienna, said the JCPOA is one of the most important concerns of the world and added that unilateral move of the US in exiting from the deal has negative effects on regional and international peace and security.

The US President Donald Trump declared exit from nuclear deal between Iran and Group 5+1 on May 8, 2018.

The move was protested by signatories' countries and they announced their commitment to the deal.

They also trying to find a mechanism that Iran may continue benefitting from the JCPOA advantages.
