Over 2 tons of illicit drugs seized in SE Iran

Zahedan, Sept 15, IRNA – The Iranian police discovered and confiscated 2,215 kilograms of opium in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, southeastern Iran, said the provincial police commander on Saturday.

'Following the information received about a large depot of narcotics, the police started an operation,' said Brigadier-General Mohammad Qanbari.

General Qanbari said that 433.5 kilograms of various narcotics were found in the operation, and one person was arrested to this end. After the interrogations, the police found out about another depot and raided the area where they seized 1,781.5 kilograms of narcotics.

Two other people were arrested in the second operation and one car was confiscated.

He added that some drug traffickers managed to flee the scene, leaving behind one Kalashnikov, two magazines, and 102 bullets which were seized by the Iranian forces.
