IRNA chief: Media away from politicization

Mashad, Sept 12, IRNA- Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Seyed Zia Hashemi said the media should be away from politicization, give the principles of news independently and respect the principles of professional independence in the news process.

Hashemi in a meeting with the governor of Khorasan Razavi in Mashad on Wednesday said, 'Politics is noble, but politicization takes politics out of the ordinary routine, so the media should avoid politicization.'

He described some unnecessary conflicts as harming the media, and said, 'There are about 10,000 licensed media in Iran which even if half of them are active it is very high in terms of numbers.'

Managing director of the Islamic Republic News Agency said, 'Media diversity and pluralism, along with the creation of internal scrutiny and the growth of the media, also cause damages like lack of necessary training and professional weakness.'

He said that in the current situation, the interest to media has grown, adding that when the demand market is there, supply is also found.

'With regard to high-speed news technologies, access to other media, especially in cyberspace, has been facilitated, and in these competitive conditions, the media need more effort.'

Hashemi added that in the organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, media authority will be strengthened and the president demands transparency from the media. 'In IRNA, we have tried to move on this route because we must meet media requirements.'

The official media must be independent in their own right, while maintaining their professional independence. This is important in the organization of the Islamic Republic News Agency. There should also be logical dialogue in the community and between the media, since if there is a one-way communication, then it will not be effective so media must be the center for dialogue.
