Common policies paving ground for developing Tehran-Beijing ties

Beijing, Sept 11, IRNA - Head of Iran's Foreign Policy Strategic Council described relations between Iran and China as good, saying common policies prompt both countries develop ties.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Tuesday, Kamal Kharrazi underlined that relations between Iran and China are of high importance.

Relations with China are not comparable with any country, he said, expressing hope for increased volume of ties based on the signed agreements.

Pointing to signing statement of the strategic cooperation between Iran and China, he called for continuation of One Belt, One Road initiative as one of the grounds for reinforcing relations.

Linking Gwadar Port to Chabahar and connecting railway and road from Chabahar to Central Asia will facilitate connection with Central Asia, the Middle East, Europe and even Africa, he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Kharrazi referred to reviving old Silk Road shipping line, saying the agreement between Pakistan and China for linking Kashgar to Gwadar have paved the way for continuation of the project in the sea.

Trilateral cooperation among Iran, China and Pakistan will help facilitate the project, he added.

Iranian official also underlined launching railway and road, airport, oil and gas networks, establishing modern cities and investing in the energy sectors of Oman, Iran, Pakistan and Iraq.

Kharrazi emphasized China participation in reconstruction and development of Iraq and Syria, saying reconstruction of the countries will help create jobs.

It requires investments for such purposes as establishment of factories for manufacturing steel, cement, construction materials, electricity, etc, he said.

He urged Iran, China and Pakistan to maintain cooperation in defense industries, saying developing Chabahar and Gwadar ports and their security depends on security of the Indian Ocean.

Referring to the importance of energy for Iran and China, he suggested China to participate in linking oil pipelines to Pakistan and transferring natural gas from the biggest oil field in the world in Iran to China.
