Qatar criticizes closure of PLO office in Washington

Doha, Sept 11, IRNA- Qatari government has lashed out at the US over its decision to shut down the Palestine Liberation Organization's (PLO) office in Washington.

Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on its official Tweeter account, expressing regret over President Donald Trump administration's decision to close the PLO office in the US capital.

According to the statement, shutting the office down would 'widen distance' between the Trump administration and the PLO.

'It will hamper international efforts to revive the peace process to reach a comprehensive and just peace agreement between Palestinians and Israelis,' the statement reads.

The statement declares Doha's stance on the Palestinian issue which is based on United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, both of which endorse the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Yesterday the Trump administration officially announced the closure of the Palestinian diplomatic delegation in Washington, stating lack of direct talks between the Palestinian National Authority and the Zionist regime of Israel as the reason for such decision.

Heather Nauert, the Spokesman for the Unites States Department of State issued a statement saying the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) officials criticized the US peace initiative before knowing what it was and even refused to talk to the US government about its efforts to achieve peace in Palestine.

Several Palestinian figures and groups have condemned the decision, regarding it part of US mounting pressure on Palestine.
