Iraqi FM regrets attack on Iran’s consulate in Basra

Baghdad, Sept 8, IRNA – Iraq’s Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari voiced regret over an attack on Iranian Consulate General in the Iraqi city of Basra.

Al-Jaafari in a Statement on Friday evening warned the protestors in Basra and urged them to hold peaceful demonstrations.

He said that these hostile actions create opportunities for the enemies of Iraq.

Al-Jaafari called retaining relations with other countries “a national duty” and stressed the protection of consulates and foreign countries’ missions.

Some protestors attacked Iranian Consulate General in Basra on Friday evening.

Despite Senior Iraqi religious authority Ayatollah Sistani’s warnings, radical protestors attacked and deflagrated buildings and political parties’ headquarters in Basra.
