Afghanistan keen on using Iran’s scientific capabilities

Kashan, Sept 6, IRNA -- Afghan Minister of Higher Education Najibullah Khwaja Umari hailed cultural commonalities with Iran, saying that his country will hopefully improve the situation using the scientific capabilities and experiences of the Iranian universities.

Touring University of Kashan on Wednesday, he added that Afghanistan has been grappling with numerous crises over the past 40 years and its neighbors shouldered the heavy burden of refugees.

He further noted that he is currently in Iran to help boost scientific cooperation and prepare conditions for Afghan students to continue studies in Iranian universities.

The Afghan minister also called for holding educational workshops and joint research cooperation.

Contending that Afghanistan development is contingent upon scientific development, Khwaja Umari said that the only way to save the country from the current situation is promote its scientific level.

The chancellor of University of Kashan, for his part, presented a report on the scientific status of the university as the one among top ten across the country.

Abbas Zara’t further noted that close to 500 foreign students are studying in the university as it stands fourth in the country in terms of hosting foreign students.

He also voiced the university’s readiness for cooperation with Afghan universities.
