IRNA to help Kazinform set up office in Tehran

Tehran, Sept 3, IRNA – Managing Director of Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Seyyed Zia Hashemi voiced readiness to help National News Agency of Kazakhstan (Kazinform) to establish an office in Tehran.

In a meeting with the deputy managing director of Kazinform Yutshev, he expressed pleasure with mutual cooperation between the two news agencies.

Yutshev is currently in Tehran to attend the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) meeting.

Hashemi also hoped that Kazakhstan’s presence in the event will open a new chapter in the two news agencies’ joint undertakings.

Yutshev, for his part, invited the IRNA chief to visit Astana to attend a meeting of Union of Caspian Sea News Agencies.

He hoped that ties between the two news agencies would further improve.

He was also optimistic that the two media outlets would help forge closer ties between the two nations so that they would get further acquainted with each other’s traditions.

The OANA was founded in 1961 with the goal of facilitating information dissemination in the region, supported by the UN cultural entity, the UNESCO. The organization covering two thirds of the world population has now 44 members from 35 countries of Asian and Oceania.

Iran, as a long-standing member, has been the rotating president in 1997-2000. The period was followed by a term of vice-presidency until 2016. The country is now a member of OANA executive board.

The last (16th) general assembly of OANA was held in Azerbaijan's capital city, Baku, in 2016 to hand over the presidency to the Central Asian country.

At Tehran meeting, South Korea is expected to assume the rotating presidency for the coming three years.

The executive board comprises 13 members with Azertac, ITAR-TASS, Xinhua, Yonhap and Anadolu as its current mebers of board of directors.
