QNA chief calls for enhanced media ties with Iran

Tehran, Sept 2, IRNA – Managing-Director of Qatar News Agency (QNA) Youssef Ibrahim Al-Maliki said on Sunday that 40 years of media cooperation between Iran and Qatar need to be continued more than ever.

Al-Maliki, who has travelled to Tehran to participate in the 43rd OANA Executive Board Meeting, made the remarks during a meeting with IRNA Managaing Director Zia Hashemi at the venue of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Headquarters in Tehran on Sunday.

He expressed the hope that the presence of the Qatari delegation would help enhance media relations between the two countries.

IRNA bureau is one of the active news bureaus in Doha which reflects the realities, al-Maliki said.

As the latest cooperation document between IRNA and QNA dates back to 2000, the two news agencies are determined to create changes in that agreement to meet the needs of the two sides, the official said.

He also said that QNA is eager to make use of the capacities of IRNA College of Media Studies.

Managing directors and chief executive officers of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) have arrived in Tehran to participate at the 43rd Executive Board Meeting of the Asian media alliance.

The managing directors and the CEOs of nine OANA news agencies, including Oman's ONA, Qatar's QNA, Mongolia's Montsame, Kazakhstan's Kazinform, Azerbaijan Republic's Azertac, South Korea's Yonhap, Japan's Kyodo, Vietnam's VNA and Indonesia's Antara have so far arrived in the Iranian capital on Sunday.

Aslan Aslanov, OANA President along with Youssef Ibrahim Abdulrahman Al Maleki General Manager of Qatar News Agency and VNA Director General Nguyễn Đức Lợi are among the first who, heading media delegations, have come to Tehran.

CEOs of nine other OANA news agencies are scheduled to arrive in the Iranian capital within next hours.

Chaired by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the OANA meeting is scheduled to be convene on September 2-5.
