PLO slams US cutting aid to UNRWA

Tehran, Sept 1, IRNA - Chief of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Saeb Erekat condemned US decision to cut aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

US choice on cutting assistance is against international laws and UN resolution, Erekat was quoted as saying by Russian media 'Sputnik'.

US has not the right to confirm Zionist regime's illegal occupation of Palestinian territories and pillaging Holy Quds.

US decision against Quds and refugees indicates destroying international regulations, security and stability in the region and granting award to extremist and terrorist elements, he added.

The United States cut more than $200 million in aid to the Palestinians.

“We have undertaken a review of US assistance to the Palestinian Authority and in the West Bank and Gaza to ensure these funds are spent in accordance with US national interests and provide value to the U.S. taxpayer,” the US State Department earlier announced in a statement.

Meanwhile Hannan Ashrawi senior member of the PLO in a separate statement slammed US act saying 'The US administration is demonstrating the use of cheap blackmail as a political tool. The Palestinian people and leadership will not be intimidated and will not succumb to coercion. The rights of the Palestinian people are not for sale.'

'There is no glory in constantly bullying and punishing a people under occupation. The US administration has already demonstrated meanness of spirit in its collusion with the Israeli occupation and its theft of land and resources….now it is exercising economic meanness by punishing the Palestinian victims of this occupation,' she added.
