Berri: Lebanon opposes economic sanctions against nations

Beirut, Sept 1, IRNA – Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri underlining his country’s opposition to economic sanctions and collective punishment of nations, recalled Iran’s role in supporting nations against the antagonistic acts of the Zionist regime.

He made the remarks while addressing a ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of Imam Musa Sadr’s disappearance in Baalbek, eastern Lebanon, on Friday.

Imam Musa Sadr, a religious scholar, had long been making efforts for improving the social condition of the Lebanese. He disappeared a few days after he went to Libya upon an invitation from the then Libyan government, headed by Muamar Kaddafi.

The prominent Muslim figure was known for his role in creating resistance cores against the Zionist regime occupation and peaceful coexistence of followers of various religions.

Efforts are underway to release Imam Musa Sadr and his companions, Berri said.

Warning about US probable attack on Syria, he said that the aggression would never be able to restore the situation to that of past.
