Iran, Armenia keen on boosting parliamentary ties

Moscow, Sept 1, IRNA – Chairmen of Iranian and Armenian parliamentary friendship groups in Yerevan on Friday stressed the need for promoting parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

Chairman of Armenian Parliamentary Friendship Group Wahram Bagdasarian referred to high level of the two countries’ relations and exchange of parliamentary delegations, saying that Armenia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group is one of the biggest friendship groups indicating willingness of the Armenian nation to enhance ties with Iran.

Elsewhere in his speech, he called for further promotion of bilateral ties and increase in gas export to his country from one million cubic meters to two million cubic meters.

Chairman of Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Ramazanali Sobhanifar, for his part, referred to the history of the two countries’ ties, saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared for boosting cooperation with Armenia, especially in the field of energy.

“Iran is also ready to set up hydroelectric, solar and wind power plants in Armenia,” he said, noting that the two countries are currently making arrangements for establishment of hydroelectric power plant in Meghri by the Iranian side.

Sobhanifar stressed the need for using Meghri Free Zone’s opportunities and role of parliaments in encouraging investment in the region and passing laws in a bid to ease investment.
