700 kg of opium seized in S Iran

Bushehr, July 7, IRNA – Some 700 kilograms of opium was found in Asalouyeh County, Bushehr Province, southern Iran, said the provincial police commander on Tuesday.

'The police found out that a haul of opium is being transferred and reached the certain point,' said Brigadier-general Khalil Vaezi.

He also said that the traffickers could escape as soon as they found out the police were there.

Vaezi said that since the beginning of the Iranian year (March 21) about 4.22 tons of narcotics have been found in Bushehr Province.

Iran as the country neighboring Afghanistan and Pakistan is a transit road for drug-traffickers. Many Iranian soldiers are killed every year in the fight against the ominous phenomenon.
