Pakistan National Security Advisor resigns

Islamabad, June 27, IRNA -- The National Security Adviser (NSA) of Pakistan Lt. General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua has reigned from his post, state media reported.

Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk accepted the resignation.

He was supposed to speak at the inaugural session of Afghanistan-Pakistan Bilateral Dialogue (Track II) today (Wednesday) but his speech was postponed till Thursday for unknown purposes.

On May 15, Janjua said Pakistan seeks lasting peace with Afghanistan and is engaging Taliban to achieve that.

Nasser Janjua, a retired three-star general in Pakistan army, had been serving as the national security adviser since October 23, 2015. He was appointed by the formerly governing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Prior to his retirement from Pakistan army in 2015, Nasser Janjua held the post of Commander of Southern Command.
