Iran’s Interest Section in Washington handles consular affairs of the Iranian expatriates in the US and Canada and conducts no political activities.
According to eye witnesses, the assailant chanting anti-Iran slogans beat one of the staffers of the office, who was later transported to hospital for treatment.
After the attack, all services to the clients were totally suspended.
The attacker has been arrested but no information on his identity has so far been released. Police is still guarding the building and streets leading to the office are all closed.
The attack on Iran’s only consular office in Washington came after US President Donald Trump made threatening remarks against Iran.
