Iran can Identify discovered mummified corpse: Official

Tehran, April 25, IRNA – The director of Iran's Legal Medicine Organization said on Wednesday that the mummified corpse found in south of Tehran could be identified.

'Scientifically, it is possible to identify the mummified corpse found in Rey Township in southern Tehran,' Ahmad Shojaei told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

The mummy has not been delivered yet to Iran's Legal Medicine Organization for examination, said Shojaei.

'As soon as the mummy is transferred to the organization, our forensic teams will start their examinations,' he added.

He said that the undamaged bones or a DNA test will make it possible for them to identify the mummified corpse.

Officials in the Tehran City Islamic Council announced on Monday that a mummified corpse had been discovered in western part of Abdulazim Shrine in south of Tehran during excavations for a development project.

Speculations are high that the found mummy is the preserved dead body of Reza Shah, the founder of Pahlavi Dynasty.
