Greek professor lauds Iran role in fighting terrorism

Athens, March 7, IRNA – Iran plays a major role in the fight against terrorism and the country is working towards peace and unity both in the region and the world, a Greek university professor said in an interview.

Since victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, the country has been promoting peace, unity and peaceful coexistence among regional and world countries, Stergios Katikhoritis, told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) in a recent exclusive interview.

Iran, in order to achieve regional and global peace, from the very beginning warned against the global threat of terrorism and was the first to launch a campaign against the terrorist groups, Katikhoritis said.

In the absence of a country like the Islamic Republic of Iran, terrorist groups, including Daesh (ISIS) and other similar groups, would have overwhelmed and destroyed the region and even Europe to a large extent, he said.

He said that the terrorist groups were promoted by some regional and Western countries to achieve certain ends.

But Iran, quite honestly and by using all in its capacity, started fighting terrorists to ward off a human catastrophe by terrorists and their supporters, he added.
