China to design, construct 3rd part of Tehran-Shomal Freeway

Tehran, Feb 6, IRNA – The third section of Tehran-Shomal (north) Freeway will be designed by the Chinese company Qingda, a senior official of the company said on Tuesday.

The preliminary estimates show that designing and constructing the third section of Tehran-Shomal Freeway requires a 2.2-billion-dollar investment, the representative of the Chinese company Saied Abolkheirian said.

The third section of the freeway is located in an impassable area, and the expertise of the Chinese company with 70 years of experience is to construct giant projects of transportation infrastructure, including tunnels and bridges, in mountainous areas. Qingda is now constructing the biggest bridge of the world in China.

The memorandum of understanding of the project was signed by Mostazafan Foundation one month ago, the representative said.

Abolkheirian said that the project is scheduled to be accomplished in four years in the mountainous area.

It is also stipulated in the preliminary MoU that 85 percent of the work force of the project should be Iranian young people, he said.

The first section of the freeway is from interchange with Azadegan Expressway and Hemmat Expressway in northwestern Tehran city (Municipality District 21) to Doab, Shahrestanak, Alborz Province.

Section 2 is from Doab, Shahrestanak, Alborz to Pol-e Zanguleh, Kelardasht District, Mazandaran Province. The total length is 25 km.

The third section is 47 km from Pol-e Zanguleh to Dasht Nazir T-junction. It includes 92 tunnels and 38 bridges.

The fourth section of the Freeway is from Dasht-e Nazir to Chaloos with an estimated length of 20 km.
