Iran pilgrims stuck in Baghdad Airport back home

Baghdad, Jan 31, IRNA - Hundreds of Iranian pilgrims who were left stranded in Baghdad Airport because of heavy snow in Iran which shut down Tehran's Imam Khomeini Airport for a couple of days have now returned home.

All Iran's relevant bodies in Iraq prepared the grounds for the pilgrims to go back home.

Drugs were also given to Iranian pilgrims and they were mostly accommodated in an area outside the airport, Iran embassy in Iraq announced.

Despite lack of cooperation on the side of certain tourist companies which have dispatched Iranian passengers to Iraq, necessary arrangements have been made for their temporary settlement in Iraq, an official in Iran mission in Baghdad told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

The first winter snow and freezing weather covered the Iranian capital and many other cities across the country on Jan 28.

The snow was so heavy that it shut down schools in Tehran and other cities and all governments departments started their work with a two-hour delay. It also disturbed flight arrivals and departures in Tehran while it blocked roads and streets and caused many cars get stuck in the way.
