Light quake jolts SW Iran

Tehran, Jan 31, IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4 on Richter scale rocked Konartakhteh Town in the southwestern province of Fars at 23:06 hours local time (19: 36 GMT) on Tuesday night.

According to the Seismological Center affiliated to the Institute of Geophysics of Tehran University, the epicenter of the quake was registered at 51.40 degrees longitude and 29.55 degrees latitude at the depth of 8 kilometers underground.

No casualties or property damage have been reported.

Iran sits astride several major faults in the earth's crust and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
